Running For Montana's Future

In 2010, a collaborative effort between the Helena Police Department and the Angel Fund created Running For Montana’s Future. The main goal of this program is to promote healthy physical activity while providing an opportunity for local law enforcement to forge a positive relationship with kids in the community. A 5K race took place for four years to help raise funds. Since the end of the run, individual sponsorships from local businesses have helped further fund this effort. Proceeds are used by Helena Police Officers to purchase shoes for Helena youth through The Angel Fund.

Process

Students in need are identified by school officials who work with parents to complete and turn in the Running for Montana’s Future application to the School Resource Officer (SRO) and/or the school’s Angel Fund Coordinator. As the program has grown, so has its positive reputation. As a result, parents and students alike have requested applications directly from the SRO. The Helena Police Department and the Angel Fund work together to identify families in need and reach out to them in order to provide clothes and running shoes.
